The Society for Indian Ocean Studies is a think tank which organizes seminars, discussions and workshops on different aspects of the Indian Ocean which includes historical, economic, scientific and strategic relations with the neighbouring countries, particularly, countries of Southeast Asia and the east coast of Africa. For the last 16 years, the Society brings out a Journal of Indian Ocean Studies issued three-times a year. The Society has its chapters at Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad and Mumbai.
